Design Vs. Function. How should you start prototyping?

         Design Vs. Function. In this video, Entrepreneur Network partner Bolaniole Mate of Be Better Paris meets with two skateboard companies that take very different to business and manufacturing. Skateboard company Basie-en-ville Skateboards puts function before design. Co-founders Laurent Pierre and Anne Isimat-Mirin have engineered modern technical structures to their boards, making them easy to carry and adaptable to a variety of environments. 
        What she means when It says "Design vs. Function: How should your start prototyping?" she is saying which making comes first? the design and how much you just wanna make an interesting design or the function, making the skateboard itself and if  it will benefit others. 
         After watching the video I've learned that which ever way you pick in starting your own prototype is the way you start it; and that when you start you don't stop until it is finished. 

If I had to choose between Design and Structure, I would pick structure. Because I feel like making the base on the item is more important than to add silly designs on it. If you start with design then where is the design supposed to go? 
        I would start with structure and finish it, than add design to sell the item I made.

Dark side of black friday

     Every black Friday is chaotic, dangerous, and very cruel. Black Friday happens in the US a day after thanksgiving. Noted as the first day of traditional Christmas shopping, during which crowds are drawn to special offers by retailers. 

          The term “Black Friday” was coined in the 1960s to mark the kickoff to the Christmas shopping season. “Black” refers to stores moving from the “red” to the “black,” back when accounting records were kept by hand, and red ink indicated a loss, and black a profit. Ever since the start of the modern Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1924, the Friday after Thanksgiving has been known as the unofficial start to a bustling holiday shopping season.

In the 1960's, police in Philadelphia griped about the congested streets, clogged with motorists and pedestrians, calling it “Black Friday.” In a non-retail sense, it also describes a financial crisis of 1869: a stock market catastrophe set off by gold spectators who tried and failed to corner the gold market, causing the market to collapse and stocks to plummet.

          The death and injury count for Black Friday starting from 2006-2014. there are at least 20 injuries and almost 5 deaths. To have a family member or friend die or get injured on black Friday really questions if humans are either despite for a low priced item or just straight savage. If I have ever find out if my family died or got badly hurt because they saw an item that was low priced, not only would I be mad about the situation; but I'll also have to live with the fact that such a horrible thing happen on a day that I find very outrageously dumb. The total of deaths 2006-2014 are 7. total number of injuries are 98. Come on people. Get yourselves together. 

          An article named "Father charged in crash that killed daughters" if the title of this already disturbs you, please stop reading now, and understand why I'm against this horrible day. "Two daughters died after Lexus rolled over and struck a police car"

       A San Bruno father has been charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter after a November roll-over crash killed two of his daughters and severely injured a CHP officer, the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday, Aug. 22. 

Tandel was driving his Lexus SUV north from Gilroy after having only three hours of sleep in a 24-hour period, said Cindy Hendrickson, supervising deputy district attorney.

The four daughters were crowded into a back seat fitted for only three. The two who died were not wearing seat belts. A seat in the third row was folded down to make room for the family's purchases, Hendrickson said. The official charges are misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence.

These dangerous conditions led to an enormous tragedy that could have been even worse. This was a preventable tragedy.

"The defendant is not the first person to drive while extremely sleepy nor the first person to drive with unbelted passengers. Yet this case shows in tragic detail the consequences that can flow from such conduct. It should serve as a reminder to us all about the need for vigilance in adhering to safety rules. This is why the district attorney's office decided that charges were warranted in this case despite the defendant's extreme personal loss," Hendrickson said.

A witness driving behind the Lexus allegedly saw Tandel driving close to the white line that separates the freeway lanes from the right-hand shoulder just before the accident, and the witness moved to the far left lane to stay away from the impending crash, Hendrickson said.

      Now, I would say so much more, put more of this article I've read but I'm just going to leave it as it is and you decide. Is this really important then our own safety?

effective product development.

           After reading this article named "The 7 steps of effective product development" I have picked up some many teamwork tips, leadership tips, and an idea of how complicated it is to make your own idea or product come up and be invested. I don't know if I'm sounding right, because I'm a bit tired, and mind clouded haha so I'll do the best I can to make sense in my words. 
                One tip I saw that I felt was helpful is number 3. Don't skimp on materials or manufacturing. It says, A low-cost vendor isn’t necessarily your best bet. “It’s important not to make purchasing decisions based solely on price,” Ko says. “You have to go for quality and reputation.” That may mean spending a little extra, given that top-shelf suppliers, labs and manufacturers tend to charge more.

Look online, attend trade shows and collect industry recommendations. You may need to hire an agent to find a factory for you. However, Ko cautions, you must personally visit any factory you’re thinking of partnering with, even if it’s 8,000 miles away. 

To ensure that production is up to snuff, create guidelines for every manufacturing detail. 

“It’s not enough to outline 85 percent of the process,” Hong says. For example, don’t simply say that your product should be constructed of stainless steel—specify a grade, or the factory will likely use the lowest-end option.

Don’t expect a flawless product off the bat, and stay on top of every detail. “You have to check that,” says Amy Wenslow, CEO of Products to Profits, a consultancy in Pasadena, Calif., that helps entrepreneurs develop, market and sell their products at stores such as Walmart, Target, Lowe’s, Bed Bath & Beyond and Big 5 Sporting Goods. “It’s like a Grand Canyon-size cliff if you don’t. Because that’s your opportunity to sign off that your product is correct, and if it’s not, to have the production line stop and fix it.”

             I think I learned the most in that tip, another one I found really helpful is number 6.Protect your ideas. It says, Intellectual property laws can protect you only if you arm yourself accordingly. Hiring a tough IP attorney is a must. But before you shell out thousands, visit the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office website (uspto.gov) to learn about these protections and ensure that your idea hasn’t already been patented or trademarked by someone else.

As early as possible, you should trademark your product name, purchase the corresponding web domain and file a provisional patent application, which won’t break the bank but will allow you to stake a claim on your idea while giving you a year to file a formal application. 

You probably won’t be able to afford to patent your products in multiple countries from day one—you’ll likely file a U.S. patent first and add others as it makes sense. But it helps to determine early on where else you may want to market your idea, Wenslow says, because once you head down this path, the deadlines for filing patents abroad arrive quickly.

             Everything about this really gave me a clear idea of how to protect me idea and how to go about it without hurting that idea. Now, the last one that I would like to point out is number 4. Price it right. This tip is the best tip out of all seven tips in this article. I think this because, many things that are being sold out there and are trending; are being sold at a high, and horrible price! okay. This says, Many entrepreneurs fail to factor in all overhead costs—including shipping and duties—when considering pricing. Other mistakes: gauging incorrectly what consumers will be willing to pay, not knowing where you want to sell the product and thinking you can make the same profit margin from high- and low-end retailers. For example, selling at Nordstrom will yield a different margin than selling on Amazon and may require different packaging, Wenslow says.

Wait to do the math until you’ve nailed down all the particulars. Once you run the numbers, if your profit margins are too low (or the price you need to charge to make a profit is too high), you may need to whittle down your manufacturing costs.

Hong is a fan of looking to the marketplace—at comparable products and industry margins—to calculate product price. “I’ve always been a big believer that your cost and the price is driven by the market, unless you are creating a new market for a product,” he says.

If you need help setting prices, Wenslow suggests enlisting the services of a product development consultant or sales broker.

fast fashion

             The term “fast fashion” refers to a phenomenon in the fashion industry whereby production processes are expedited in order to get new trends to the market as quickly and cheaply as possible. As a result of this trend, the tradition of introducing new fashion lines on a seasonal basis is being challenged. Today, it is not uncommon for fast-fashion retailers to introduce new products multiple times in a single week.
             A rule in the United Kingdom that permits market makers to trade outside quoted ranges, when an exchange determines that market movements are so sharp that quotes cannot be kept current. The purpose of the fast market rule is to maintain an orderly market during a time of chaos. Under the rule, market makers must turn off their computerized trading systems, called black boxes. They do not have to quote share prices based on the London Stock Exchange's screen prices while the fast market is in effect, but they are still required to make firm quotes.

           Breaking down fast market rule, fast markets are rare and are triggered by highly unusual circumstances. For example, the London Stock Exchange declared a fast market on July 7, 2005, after the city experienced a terrorist attack. Share prices were falling dramatically and trading was exceptionally heavy. The fast market rule is made possible because circuit breakers are not used. Circuit breakers allow exchanges to temporarily halt trading during sharp price declines to prevent panic selling. With a circuit breaker, the sharper the decline, the longer trading is halted.

           McKinsey found that a culture of disposable fashion is proliferating in which retailers keep putting out greater volumes of inexpensive clothing. Consumers, attracted by the low cost and constant newness, are buying these clothes in greater quantities, and often wearing them only a handful of times before discarding them. This fast-fashion ecosystem uses large amounts of natural resources while producing carbon emissions that fuel climate change. It has also been linked to numerous cases of worker abuses in countries sewing the garments.

“In five large developing countries—Brazil, China, India, Mexico, and Russia—apparel sales grew eight times faster than in Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States,” the report states.

In my wildest dreams

        In my wildest dreams I picture myself in a world with equality, freedom, and constant respect for others and yourself. In this world I made for myself I will be surrounded with the ones I already know and those I barley know. I will invite the ones am not very friendly with so that I will make a better and heather bond with them. I will have the one I love always with me as I care for him the same way he does for me. I will make sure my world is in order with simple and safe rules that will satisfy both me and the ones I invited. 
              It'll be almost like paradise for myself and others;I hope. There will be no buildings, oil plants, pollution, and ect. Waterfalls, strawberry fields, tall trees, and happy things. 
              In this world that I created for myself will be only for me with the illusion of people with me. The only one that will be real is the one I love. The one and only. When there comes a time of wanting to be alone I will wipe my illusion of the people out of my world. There will be a place where only I can walk in, where I can sit in and waste time, where I can lose my mind even more, and where I can hear sweet slow music that I dearly enjoy. In this world it'll only be me and the one I love with the illusion of others around us. they wont have their regular minds as I will make them unable to speak or think that way they think. They will have the same mind set as me. 
             In this world I created for myself I am able to go to a cliff and scream as loud and long as I want. I can jump and be gently caught by the ocean waves, they will carry me to the middle of the ocean where I can be more by myself and more in peace. The colors I will surround myself will the ones that calm me. Purple, red, black. Purple as the most beautiful flower I've seen when I was at the age of 9. Red as the sweet color of the thick liquid that pumps through my veins, and black. The color of the night of when the stars are to shy to come out. 
            During the time for me to sleep and rest my clouded mind I will be watched by the galaxy and it's stars. They will enjoy watching me as I enjoy watching them. Everything around me will be my choice and my luxury. Everything and everyone that disagree with anything in my world is nothing to me and is dead to me. 
           This will be in my wildest dreams....
